Links with the curriculum

Using the legislature environment as a catalyst, the program "School at the Legislature" helps students in Grade 6 learn about the provincial government in Alberta. For a week, students will be studying various subjects - social studies, obviously, but also science during a guided tour of the gardens of the Legislature; Health and life skills by doing interviews with professionals working for the Legislative Assembly; and French while writing in their journals to reflect on their week. Program coordinators work with teachers to develop a unique schedule for each school. Teachers can customize the activities of the week to address particular aspects of the school curriculum. During the week the class will be on the Legislative Assembly grounds, a coordinator will guide the activities. The level of teacher involvement is up to you.
