Teaching materials

We offer professional development workshops and cultural accessories. We also have the only French-Canadian culture and dance resource centre in Western Canada.

Links with the curriculum

La Girandole aims to achieve several learning objectives through its school programming and dance workshops in schools. These objectives apply from kindergarten to grade twelve for students in the Francophone stream, French immersion, and French as a second language. Here is an overview of the learning objectives for the following subjects:

  • French: Culture and identity, oral expression, oral comprehension, vocabulary, and expression.
  • Fine Arts: Appreciation of instruments, tempo, rhythm and different speeds, musical phrases, aesthetics.
  • Physical Education: Skills in formation, movement types, movement isolation, group work, small group work, or individual work.
  • Social Studies: Canadian history, Francophones, Francophonie, similarities among the first settlers in Canada, cultures.

Furthermore, these objectives help develop the following skills and competencies: physical well-being, psychological well-being, emotional well-being, and the development of cultural and identity expression or appreciation.

Requirements

We ask for a dance space (gym, theatre or music room), a sound system that can connect via an AUX chord, one to two microphones. 

Availability

From September to June 

Number of participants

We have a minimum of 20 students and a maximum of a full school (600 students). We ask that teachers see a maximum of 60 students at a time (3 classes). 

Duration

We offer three different formats: 

  • Dance animation (30 to 60 min) 
  • Carnaval (half-day to full two days) 
  • Dance Residency (three to five days) 

Cost

Animation de danse - From 100$ 

Carnaval de danse - From 500$

Résidence de danse - From 2000$ 

Description

La Girandole is a francophone danse association that specializes in French-Canadian dance and culture. We are proud to offer the chance to French Immersion, FSL and francophone students the chance to participate in an enriching dance experience in French! 

We offer three different dance workshop formats:  

  • Dance animation (30 to 60 min) - Ideal to see one class, one time. 
  • Carnaval (half-day to two days) - A chance to get the whole school moving! 
  • Dance Residency (three to five days) - The dance specialists works with the whole school to create a unique performance at the end of the residency.
