Description

“Building Future Voters” (BFV) is a non-partisan, educational program designed to support the Grade 6, 9, and 12 programs of study in Alberta. As an approved classroom resource, BFV helps students and teachers to engage in learning around democracy and civics, while also creating dialogue about key social values, civic participation, and individual political ideologies.

Building Future Voters (Grade 6) This resource is about citizenship, identity and democratic decision-making within a society. Students are encouraged to consider ways of giving back to their communities.

Building Future Voters (Grade 9) This resource focuses on the dynamic between the legislative and the political process in Canada and their impact on issues relating to citizenship, identity and quality of life. Students explore issues relating to governance and decision-making, including the impact of citizen participation in democratic processes.

Building Future Voters (Grade 12) This resource focuses on citizenship, identity and ideologies. Students examine the ways in which the choice of participation in democratic processes can promote participation at the local, national or global level. They will examine the beliefs, values and attitudes that lead to empowerment in personal responses of citizens on issues.

Build the Vote! Election simulation guide supports the learning materials by presenting the approach and equipment necessary for holding a mock election in class.

For students, the creation of new digital enhancements, like the new companion website, support learning from anywhere, at any time. Additionally, as a fully reproducible, sourced, and adaptive program, it is a truly robust tool for the classroom. The new resource texts, updated in 2016, have been completely refreshed to reflect important changes within the learning model, with additional improvements made to reflect changes to the legislation. Available in both English and in French, it is well worth a look! Contact to receive your own print copy!
