The conference aims to provide support to students and teachers from kindergarten to Grade 12 in the development and smooth running of a gay-straight alliance / queer-heterosexual (AGH-AAH).

Requirements

Description

The 5th annual Alberta Gender & Sexual Orientation Alliance (GSA) Conference will be located at Eastglen High School on Treaty 6 land in Amiskwaciy W?skahikan, also known as Edmonton, on Saturday November 19th, 2016.

There will be specialized workshops specific for students and teachers which will address a variety of topics including: how to start & strengthen a GSA, gender & sexuality for k-9 students, GSAs in rural communities, anti-oppression tips, newcomer supports, arts-based activities, and many more. There will also be a French workshop available each block.

Lunch will be provided, during which there will be a resource fair.

Each school or organization (outside of the Edmonton region) is eligible for a travel bursary of up to $500 to cover expenses to support students and staff to attend the 5th Annual Alberta GSA Conference. Eligible expenses include bus rental, gas receipts, and accommodations (if necessary). Travel bursaries will be awarded on a by request basis. We expect to be able to offer 10 bursaries for a total of $5,000. After the conference, your school must issue an invoice made payable to “The University of Alberta” for all travel expenses (up to $500) and you must include original receipts.
