Marching Mounties

Grade 1/2
The Story of Canmore
Why is Canmore where it is? How did it come to be the town we see today? Students will experience Canmore’s story: they will build the railroad, try on mining equipment, and do an Olympic torch relay. Students will also get to explore our exhibit and get a “behind-the scenes” look at our archives.
Grade 3
Minerals Rock!
This three-part program offered is offered in partnership with Lafarge. The program typically takes place over three days, but can be adapted to fit a one-day field trip.
Part 1 takes place at the museum where students are introduced to the world of rocks and minerals through a variety of interactive activities.
Part 2 is in class, where students will learn more about the cement-making process.
Part 3 students will travel to Lafarge plant in Exshaw to see firsthand what a cement production facility looks like.
Grade 4/5
A Walk Through History
Students will embark upon an interactive guided walking tour through Canmore learning the various eras of Canmore’s history. Stops include the Canmore Hotel, Ralph Connor Memorial Church, and the North West Mounted Police Barracks.
Grade 6
Canmore Speaks Up
This program is all about citizens’ participation in democracy past and present. Students will learn the art of expressing their opinion by watching and discussing Rick Mercer’s rants in the Canmore Council Chambers. Then students will put what they’ve learned into action and be challenged to debate prominent issues of Canmore 100 years ago: Prohibition, mine safety, and where to build the outhouses.
