During this activity, children have the chance to showcase their skills and build their self-esteem. This content rich intercultural experience for pre-kindergarten to grade 2 allows children to familiarize themselves with positive elements of African culture and also to explore rhythms, song, dance, musical communication and the enjoyment of the group bonding. This activity also develops motor skills, discernment, curiosity, open mindedness and also cognitive learning.
Requirements
A large classroom that can hold up to 30 students; 1 chair per student (rhythms of the world activity); 10 floor mats or 3 floor mats (Story of Mamady the lion trainer); teacher present.

Available from mid September to mid June, Monday to Friday.

Cost
1200$/day for the facilitator includes : materials (music instruments, ect.); djembés; travel (by plane from Quebec) and on location; per diem and housing.

Description
The Complete-Mandinka workshop and show by Stève Viès is an immersive half-day at the heart of the magic and fascinating West African rituals. Through this theme children will learn about several cultural and traditional aspects from this region of Africa. The adventure begins with Stève inviting children to sit in a circle with a percussive instrument to learn an African welcome song and he invites them to dance. Once in the rhythm, the children hear the interactive story of Mamady the lion trainer, the prodigy of the Badalabougou and the son of the Waka sorcerer who, during the adventures, will lead the children to discover his village, his hopes, his dreams, his fears, his talents and his secrets! During the story, the students will learn to use percussion instruments. They will also be invited to sign and dance in rhythm of Djembe. We then continue the adventure with a workshop of rhythms of the world, a musical experience that will teach the children about instruments from several countries (Brazil, France, Canada, China…) The wonderful adventure ends with stories of Tibili, a that demonstrates the importance of going to school.
