As they practise different styles of dance, children will develop their physical literacy. Dance helps forming motor skills and psychological development by engaging children with the basics of dance such as timing, rhythm, space and effort.

In the traditional French Canadian dance classes, students will develop an appreciation and belonging in French Canadian culture in its historic context by means of the artistic perspective of dance.

Description

Beyond traditional French-Canadian dance, La Girandole offers classes for ballet, hip hop, contemporary, jazz and many more! All classes are offered in French!

La Girandole, the only francophone dance school in Alberta, is the ideal place for children, ages 2 to 16, to learn to dance while having fun! In addition to learning the basic techniques for a dance style, your child will also be preparing, during the whole year, for an annual dance show.

With a reputation built on teaching French-Canadian dance, L’Association La Girandole is an ideal place for children who want to perfect their style or simply get in touch with their cultural origins.

These last few years, La Girandole has diversified its available programs. The school is proud to offer such a wide range of classes. Now here comes the hard part: Making your choice!

CHILDRENS' DANCE

• This program is for children ages 2 to 5
• With dancing games, lullabies, beats and songs, this class encourages and stimulates motor skills and psychological development by engaging children with the basics of dance such as timing, rhythm, space and effort.

TRADITIONAL FRENCH CANADIAN DANCE

• In addition to basic dance techniques and French Canadian jigs, youth explore traditional group and partnered dances
• At an advanced skill level, youth may be able to progress up to join Zéphyr, La Girandole’s professional dance troupes.  

MUSICAL COMEDY

• With song, dance and theatre exercises, children will get to reenact and choreograph a musical comedy sketch
• Note: 10$ included in the registration fee allows for the rental of audio equipment during the annual dance show.

BALLET

• Children will learn basic ballet techniques in a creative and encouraging atmosphere while working on artistic expression and precision.

HIP-HOP

• Your child or teen will become more fluid in their movements and become sensitized to the groove of « street » music while learning the foundations of the catchy style

CONTEMPORARY

• Youth will discover the foundations of contemporary dance style in this class that borrow some of the same techniques as ballet, modern, jazz and street, all in a creative and artistic environment.
