The Language Portal of Canada is a free website that provides writing tools in English and French. It includes language-related articles, blog posts and quizzes that deal with rules of grammar, difficult points of language and tips on writing.

Links with the curriculum

Students can use the Portal for help with their homework and writing assignments. Language-related articles (Writing Tips, Favourite Articles) and unilingual and bilingual quizzes complement the classroom curriculum. The resources on French verb conjugation (ConjugArt) and prepositions (Le Rouleau des prépositions) are helpful and easy to use.

Description

The Portal is a website managed by the Translation Bureau. It includes two flagship products:

  • Language Navigator is a search engine that helps users find answers to questions on writing and difficult points of language (grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, etc.);
  • TERMIUM Plus® is the Government of Canada’s terminology data bank, which contains more than five million terms and can help students enrich their vocabulary in specialized fields.

Students and teachers will also find the following resources on the Portal:

  • quizzes to test students’ knowledge of English and French;
  • a collection of online Canadian language resources grouped under five categories: Writing resources, Glossaries and dictionaries, Indigenous languages, Language learning, and Organizations and events;
  • the Our Languages blog, where users can discuss language-related news, resources and events;
  • an ambassador program to empower teachers, parents and all language learning enthusiasts.
