The Language Portal of Canada is a free website that provides language quizzes in English and French. It includes language-related articles, blog posts and writing tools that deal with rules of grammar, difficult points of language and tips on writing.

Links with the curriculum

The Language Portal is useful for teachers who want to diversify their teaching strategies by integrating online educational quizzes. Students can play language-related quizzes on the Portal individually or in a group.

Students will find useful resources on the Portal to help them maintain and develop their English and French language skills.

Description

The Language Portal of Canada is a website managed by the Translation Bureau. It includes English, French and bilingual quizzes that help students learn while having fun.

There are six main categories of quizzes: Grammar and syntax, Punctuation, Spelling, Style and writing conventions, Vocabulary and General knowledge.

Teachers and students will also find the following resources on the Portal:

  • Language Navigator, a search engine that helps users find answers to questions on writing and difficult points of language (grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, etc.);
  • TERMIUM Plus®, the Government of Canada’s terminology data bank, which contains more than five million terms and can help students enrich their vocabulary in specialized fields;
  • a collection of online Canadian language resources grouped under five categories:Writing resources, Glossaries and dictionaries, Indigenous languages, Language learning, and Organizations and events;
  • the Our Languages blog, where users can discuss language-related news, resources and events;
  • an ambassador program to empower teachers, parents and all language learning enthusiasts.
