You are immediately transported back to a time when life was, in many ways, simpler. Transportation was by rail, streetcar, or your own two feet. Entertainment was found in games, crafts, music, dining, theatre, midway rides, etc. Your experience at Fort Edmonton Park will be a journey, but more importantly, it will be an adventure.
Educational programs available in French:
(Gr. 4-9)
Come explore the Fort to see the role of the French-speaking community in the Fur Trade! A French-speaking character of the Fort will guide you in learning about the challenging work of the voyageurs, the settlement of the Métis, and involvement of the First Nations in the Fur Trade. Get a taste of life in the Fort through experiences like making a tasty voyageur treat or weaving your own Assomption sash.
(Gr. 4-9)
Some called him a hero, others suggest that he is a traitor: Louis Riel is among the most controversial leaders of Canada’s history. Bring your class to Fort Edmonton Park to learn whether the pioneers of the region were rallying with Riel or if they were in agreement with the Canadian Government of the day. Explore 1885 street to better understand the roles that francophones played in the region of Edmonton during this conflict.
(Gr.1-2)
Students will have a better understanding of the community of Edmonton in the past. Who were the people that lived there? What kinds of jobs did they have? What is the importance of the French and Métis communities? How has Edmonton changed?
