Links with the curriculum
Having the chance to make a unique piece of jewelry, be it a necklace, a pendant, a pair of earrings or a bracelet, from a huge selection of stones and various materials, is a highly creative activity. It also requires a certain amount of coordination, visualization, and imagination.
The students come out of my workshops very proud of themselves, having made a small masterpiece that will last a lifetime or that can also be offered as a gift. My role as a coach is to assist them from the beginning to the end. ALL materials are provided: trays where to put your pieces, thread, chains, clasps,, stones and pearls, pliers, explanatory booklets with examples, etc. It's 3D art. And not only for girls! We also have very masculine items that boys will love working with. This workshop is directly related to the Beaux Arts/Fine Arts courses by offering a different option / activity, hardly available in the traditional courses of the school system.
Requirements
Students do not need any prior knowledge of jewelry-making. I explain the basics at the beginning of the class and then do 1 on 1 assistance all along the workshop. I bring ALL the materails related to the workshop but we need several tables and chairs and good light. To allow for better results and a pleasant atmosphere, the recommended number of participants per session is 15. In order to make a piece of jewelry in an agreable manner, without too much stress, it takes between 1 and 2 hours. I need one hour for setup and an one hour to pack everything up.

Min: 30 per day (2 sessions- 15 students)

Duration
One session per group takes between 1 and 2 hours, depending on what the students are allowed to make. I can do two sessions in the morning and two in the afternoon.
Cost
$15 for pendant (on chain or leatherette cord)
$15 per bracelet (one row, on, on metallic wire with clasp or on strtschy nylon)
$20 per beaded necklace up t 15 inches long
$5 per pair of simple (one strand) earrings
$10 per pair of complex earrings (3 rows from metallic base)
$22 per COMBO (1 beaded necklace and 1 pair of simple (one strand) earrings
$18 per COMBO (1 pendant OR 1 bracelet AND 1 pair of simple (one strand) earrings
Description
Give your students the chance to create a beautiful piece of jewelry whether it's a necklace, a pendant, a bracelet or a pair of earrings. I offer a huge selection of glass pearls, terra-cotta, fused glass, and also semi-precious stones and metallic materials (lead and nickel free). Participants are spoiled for choice. Explanatory booklets are provided as well as trays to gather their selection of beads and findings, pliers to manipulate certain pieces of metal and also a selection of jewelry already made to inspire them. I start the workshop by explaining the attributes of the materials available to them, how to go about choosing colors, we talk about composition- symmetry, assymetry, chromatic order, light/dark effetcs, etc) and then, fluidly, everthing falls into a beautiful rythm. I am constantly available to answer their questions and to help them at every stage of the realization of their work. Some are very fast, others take longer, hesitating between one idea and another. Students use their imagination, gift of visualization and LOTS of hand/eye coordination. It's an art class but in 3D and you can wear it for the rest of your life!
